Every Child is Unique. Once we understand and apply this to Online Tutoring, educating a child ceases to be a difficult affair. Let me explain this with an example. Suppose we have two children A and B of the same age, attending an online session on “Fractions”.
Now when the tutor talks about a fraction 2/3 (2 Over 3), A & B react in different ways. A might ask, “How can you divide a smaller number with a larger number?” B might be thinking in his head “I have 2 chocolates. How can I share it among three friends?” In short, children understand a concept the way they interpret it in their minds. This is the reason why I strongly advocate the use of pictures and diagrams.
The following diagram, when explained to a child, would help him get a better picture of the concept. It would be better if the tutor can demonstrate this using the picture of a pizza.
Online Tutoring, combined with ‘understanding of child psychology, can work wonders for your child. The tutor should aim at engaging the child’s mind in a way that is interesting, yet challenging to the child. We must remember that there always lay a simple solution to even the most complex problems.
