Teaching children is Fun

Teaching children is fun, at least for our tutors and me. However, I must add that it requires a lot of patience. What makes tutoring fun for me is the fact that every child has his own story to share. Some children would not show any interest in studying, while some would be quite good at learning new concepts. Hence, an online tutor experiences both the extremes.

Once I was teaching a Grade 5 child and he was more interested in drawing cartoons on the whiteboard! Now, tutors should not shout at children no matter what the child does. In my experience of teaching kids online, the more a tutor tries to force a child into learning something, more the child gets offended. A good and fruitful way of tutoring children is to teach them the way they would like to. For instance, tutors can teach new topics by using pictures of toys, pizza, burgers, coins and so on. The idea is to help the child develop a clear picture of a particular concept in his mind.

Another mistake that tutors, sometimes unintentionally, make is to prohibit a child from asking questions. The fact is that children are quite inquisitive about the things they like. Therefore, letting them ask questions would in fact aid in online tutoring.

Online Tutoring demands patience, perseverance and understanding.
